WA Occupation Lists indicate what professions are in high demand in the state and are needed to fill skill shortages. Everyone looking to apply for a Skilled Visa with nomination by Western Australia must have an occupation in one of those lists and meet the state requirements to be nominated.
If you are planning to apply for a permanent skilled nominated 190 visa or a temporary regional 491 visa in WA, here is an important thing to know: You can’t apply for State Nomination before WA “selects” your Expression of Interest (EOI), once this is an “invitation only” system.
If WA agrees to nominate you, then you will be invited by SkillSelect to apply for the visa. However, you will only be invited by WA, then the Department of Home Affairs, if you meet the basic requirements:
- Nominate an occupation in one of the 3 WA Skilled Occupation lists;
- Meet the minimum English language requirement for your occupation;
- Have a positive skills assessment in your nominated occupation;
- Be under 45 years of age;
- Achieve a minimum of 65 points in the points-test
Before digging into the WA Occupation Lists, it is important to mention that candidates must also meet the specific requirements established by WA for each visa subclass.
WA Skilled Occupation lists
Onshore and offshore applicants will be considered to apply for both 190 and 491 visa, with different priorities.
WA Skilled Occupation lists are divided into three categories, with different requirements.

Requirements:
- Requires at least 1 year of work experience in Australia in their nominated occupation, or 3 years overseas.
- Must have a job offer in WA for at least 12 months (if applying for the 190)
