Who it is for
This book was written for the person who is still deciding.
You are outside Australia. You have skills, a trade or a profession, and you want to know whether there is a realistic visa for you before you talk to an agent, sit an English test or pay for a skills assessment.
You keep reading contradictory advice. Forums, agents’ websites and the Department’s own pages disagree with each other, and none of them tells you which rules apply to you.
You want a straight answer. The book gives you the requirements, the numbers and a way to test yourself against them. If a pathway is open, you will know what it takes. If it is not open yet, you will know what would open it.
What is inside
How it works
What it will not do
What the book will not do
It will not decide your case for you: the checklists tell you whether a pathway looks open and what it would take, and the decision on an application is made by the Department, on the evidence you lodge. It will not promise an outcome; what it does is show you what the Department will be looking for, so you can judge your own position honestly before you commit to anything. It will not replace the Department of Home Affairs website. It will make that website usable. And it does not cover student visas in detail: if study is your way in, start with our Study in Australia page, where IDP’s counsellors choose the course and our team handles the visa.
Why a book
Information is everywhere. Expertise is not.

About the author
Written by someone who has been doing this since 2005
Erica Carneiro has been a Registered Migration Agent since 2005, which places her among the longest continuously registered agents practising in Australia. She co-founded Bravo Migration in 2008, and the firm is still owned and run by the people who founded it, which is rarer in this industry than it should be. She assesses the Capstone examination that every new migration agent must pass, presents legal seminars to other agents and solicitors, and has personally carried thousands of visa applications across every pathway in this book. Since July 2026 Bravo Migration has been the official migration services partner of IDP Australia.
The book is written in the first person, in plain English, because that is how Erica explains the law to clients. Where she gives an opinion rather than a rule, the book says so.
Why this
Why pay $69 for what the internet gives away
Because the internet disagrees with itself.
The book gives one account of each requirement, from the legislation and the Department’s own pages, dated and linked.
Because it is current for this program year.
Charges from 1 July 2026, thresholds, planning levels, the October 2026 student visa changes, the September 2026 processing priorities and the invitation rounds to date.
Because it is built to be used, not read once.
Checklists, worksheets and a scoring sheet you fill in; a decision map that sends you to the right chapter.
Because it tells you when to stop.
If the checklists rule you out, that is a result that cost $69 instead of an application charge, and the book tells you what would change it.

FAQ
Is this edition current?
Yes. It is the 2026-27 Edition, with charges and thresholds from 1 July 2026 and policy changes to October 2026. Every figure is dated where it appears.
Will the book tell me if I am eligible?
No. It gives you the requirements and a way to test yourself against them. The decision on an application is made by the Department on the evidence lodged; a consultation is where we look at your actual position.
Does it cover student visas?
Only as the first step of the onshore pathways, including the October 2026 changes. For a student visa itself, start at our Study in Australia page.
Does it cover employer sponsorship?
Yes, in detail, written for the person being sponsored: the 482, 494, 186 and 407, income thresholds, what the employer has to do, and what the case officer looks for in a nomination.
I am already in Australia. Should I buy it?
You can, but the Visa Action Plan is built for you: a written pathway from the visa you hold to permanent residence, prepared by a Registered Migration Agent for $330.
What if I change my mind?
Email us within 7 days of purchase and we refund the $69. Terms are linked above.
How do I receive it?
As a PDF, by email, immediately after payment. It is tagged and bookmarked, so it reads well on a phone.
