The General Skilled Migration (GSM) SkillSelect program continues to play a pivotal role in shaping Australia’s workforce by inviting highly skilled professionals. The invitation round conducted this month showcased a selective yet diverse approach towards skilled migration, focusing on various professions that align with Australia’s economic and labour market needs.

Invitations from the Federal Australian Government are required for 2 visa subclasses:

  • Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – Family Sponsored

* State-Nominated Visa Subclass 190 and Regional Sponsored Visa Subclass 491 required nomination from a State or Territory and are not included in Federal invitation rounds.

The General Skilled Migration (GSM) SkillSelect invitation round that took place on 5 September offers insight into Australia’s selective approach towards skilled migration.

During this round, 7973 invitations were issued for the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) while no invitations were issued for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – Family Sponsored.

Each subclass targets different needs and demographics within Australia’s strategic migration planning. These figures reflect a strategic focus, ensuring that the skills brought into the country match specific sector demands.
