VIC Occupation Lists indicate what professions are in high demand in the state and are needed to fill skill shortages. Everyone looking to apply for a Skilled Visa in VIC must have an occupation in one of those lists and meet the state requirements to be nominated.
To apply for a permanent skilled nominated 190 visa or a temporary regional 491 visa with a nomination from VIC, you must be pre-selected via a registration of interest process and receive an invitation to apply for State Nomination. If Victoria agrees to nominate you, then you will be invited by SkillSelect to apply for the visa.
To be selected by VIC, and invited by SkillSelect, you must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) with SkillSelect. You will only be invited by VIC, then the Department of Home Affairs, if you meet the basic requirements:
- Must nominate an occupation in one of the VIC Skilled Occupation lists;
- have a positive skills assessment in your nominated occupation;
- be under 45 years of age;
- meet the minimum English language requirement for your occupation;
- Nominations are open for both onshore and offshore applicants.
There has been a significant expansion of the VIC Skilled Visas Nomination program for 2022-2023, starting with the Occupation List. For the past couple of financial years Victoria, whose economy suffered a lot with several lockdowns during the height of the pandemic, had a very restricted list of occupations they would consider nominating.
The nominee would also have to be living and working in Victoria, in the state-targeted sectors, while also utilizing STEMM skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths or Medicine). We now see VIC occupation list expanded to the whole instrument, which means, the whole list of occupations available for the 190 and 491 visas. That is 504 occupations in total.
VIC Nomination Pathways and Requirements
491 Visa Victoria
- Must be living and working in regional Victoria in any role at ANZSCO skill levels 1, 2 or 3;
- Employment does not have to be at the same skill level or closely related to the nominated occupation;
- Earnings will be analysed;
- If the candidate is offshore, health occupations will be prioritized, and no work in Victoria will be required;
190 visa Victoria
- Must be living in Victoria and preferably working in any occupation;
- Priority will be given to those working in certain areas;
- If offshore: there is no requirement for living or working in Victoria prior to applying
