Check our Migration Updates — there are this week’s moving parts

1) State & Territory allocations for 2025–26

The Australian Government has officially released the 2025–26 state and territory nomination allocations — a total of 20,350 places across the Subclass 190 and 491 programs.
Allocations were set considering workforce and demographic needs, on-hand visa applications, and national migration program planning levels.

These numbers mark the official start of the 2025–26 Skilled Migration Program year. States that had been operating under interim allocations (such as WA, SA) will now begin scaling their invitation rounds.

2) Victoria: invitation round yesterday
Victoria’s Skilled and Business Migration Program conducted an invitation round yesterday. If you didn’t hear from “Live in Melbourne” yesterday, it means no invite for you this round, but yourRegistration of Interest remains active for future rounds. No action is required if the information in your EOI and ROI is correct.

So here is a State & Territory snapshot (190/491)

NSW – Fully operational with 3,600 total places. Priority sectors and skills lists published.
ACT – 1,600 total places; next invitation round being scheduled.
Tasmania – 1,850 total places; weekly invitation rounds already underway.
WA – 3,400 total; interim round running this month while new allocation integrates.
SA – 2,250 total; continuing to invite applicants aligned with state workforce needs.
VIC – 3,400 total; active round today.
QLD – 2,600 total; final allocation confirmed; focus remains on Construction & Building Workers Pathway, linked to the $126B infrastructure pipeline for the Brisbane Olympics.
NT – 1,650 total; now officially included in this year’s allocations

3) National (federal) — Subclass 189
Home Affairs has scheduled the next SkillSelect invitation round for the Skilled Independent (Subclass 189) on 13 November – last week. We know that the round happened as some of our clients were invited, but information about how many invitations were issued or to which occupations has not been published yet.

If you were not invited, get ready for the next one: Ensure your EOI is current, points are accurate, and your skills assessment/English are valid at the time of invitation.

If you were invited, get in touch with us so we can review your EOI and assist you with the visa application.

What to do this week

If you’re targeting 189:

  • Recalculate points; remove any over?claiming.
  • Confirm skills assessment and English are valid; update EOI dates where needed.

If you’re targeting 190 or 491:

  • Verify your occupation is listed on your target state’s skills list.
  • Keep your EOI and ROI data consistent and evidence-backed.
  • NSW/ACT/TAS/VIC are active — ensure your files are decision-ready.
  • QLD/WA/SA/NT — prepare for new rounds and focus on eligibility gaps now.
